Ron Howard – En af Hollywoods mest populære instruktører

Ron Howard, født den 1. marts 1954 i Duncan, Oklahoma, er en Academy Award-vindende filmskaber og en af denne generations mest populære instruktører i Hollywood. Han har skabt nogle af filmhistoriens mest mindeværdige film, lige fra de kritikerroste dramaer A Beautiful Mind (2001) og Apollo 13 (1995) til de populære komedier Parenthood (1989) og Splash (1984).

Skuespillerkarriere og instruktørløb

Ron Howard startede sin karriere i filmbranchen som skuespiller. Han debuterede som instruktør i 1978 med komedien Grand Theft Auto (1977). Han fik sin første rolle i film som barneskuespiller i The Journey (1959) og The Music Man (1962), før han blev kendt som Opie i den langvarige tv-serie The Andy Griffith Show (1960). Senere medvirkede Howard i den populære serie Happy Days (1974) og fik positive anmeldelser for sine præstationer i American Graffiti (1973) og The Shootist (1976).

Howard og hans langvarige samarbejdspartner Brian Grazer begyndte deres samarbejde på hitkomedierne Night Shift og Splash. De to grundlagde Imagine Entertainment i 1986 for at skabe uafhængigt producerede spillefilm.

Anerkendelse og priser

Howard har en imponerende portefølje af nogle af de mest populære film i de sidste 20 år. Han blev anerkendt som dygtig instruktør allerede i 1995, da han modtog sin første Best Director of the Year-pris fra Directors Guild of America for Apollo 13. Dette sandfærdige drama blev også nomineret til hele ni Academy Awards og vandt priserne for Best Film Editing og Best Sound. Det modtog også priserne for Bedste Ensemble Cast og Bedste Mandlige Birolle fra Screen Actors Guild. Howard blev æret af Museum of Moving Images i december 2005 og af American Cinema Editors i februar 2006. Han og hans kreative partner Brian Grazer blev æret med Milestone Award af Producers Guild of America i januar 2009, Big Apple Award af NYUs Tisch School of Cinematic Arts i november 2009 og Humanitarian Award af Simon Wiesenthal Center i maj 2010. I juni 2010 blev Howard hædret af Chicago Film Festival med Gold Hugo – Career Achievement Award. I marts 2013 blev Howard optaget i Television Hall of Fame. I december 2015 blev Howard hædret med en stjerne i Motion Pictures-kategorien, hvilket gør ham til en af de få, der er blevet anerkendt med to stjerner på Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Andre projekter og anerkendelser

Ud over sin karriere som instruktør har Howard også fungeret som eksekutiv producent på en række prisvindende film og tv-serier, såsom HBO-miniserien From the Earth to the Moon (1998), Foxs Emmy Award-vinder for Bedste Komedie, Arrested Development (2003), som han også fortalte, Netflixs udgivelse af nye episoder af Arrested Development og NBCs Parenthood.
